Description

This Bizen tea cup is by Shin Nakamura, a celebrated master of sake vessels and tableware and the eldest son of the renowned Bizen pottery master Rokuro Nakamura. By firing high-quality "ta-tsuchi" (rice paddy clay) slightly under-fired, he achieves a beautiful gradient ranging from brown to orange. By not fully firing the clay and leaving some areas rare, he creates both visual interest and the pleasure of watching the piece evolve with use. Crafted by a veteran of sake vessel making, this tea cup is approachable and easy to use, thanks to its perfect size and rugged form. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 9.3cm x Diameter 9.2cm x Height 7.2cm Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Shin Nakamura began learning the fundamentals and honing his skills under his father in 1971. To further his study of the firing techniques of Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he also spent ten years assisting and receiving guidance from Michiaki Kaneshige with his kiln firing. He became an independent potter in 1975. He specializes in tea ceremony ceramics and tableware, while also creating flower vases, sake bottles, and sake cups. He actively holds solo exhibitions across Japan, including in Tokyo, Okayama, and Nagoya.
