Description
This is a new *haikaburi* (ash-covered) sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superior aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. This work is a rebuild of the "haikaburi" style created by master craftsmen active in the early Showa period, reimagined through Morimoto’s unique interpretation. The ash glaze appears to cling to the surface, showing no variation in height from the exposed clay areas. The piece is well-fired, and the combination of the surface’s subtle metallic sheen and the gray ash glaze further enhances the ceramic's metallic quality. Despite being thoroughly fired to the very depths of the interior, the surface remains smooth without any swelling; while this represents an approach diametrically opposed to his previous work, the sharp aesthetic characteristic of Morimoto’s style is firmly present. *Please note: There is a coarse crack on the rim, which is intentional by the artist and not a defect. We appreciate your understanding.*
Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
