Description

This Bizen sake cup is by Reiji Omori, an artist who challenges himself with Bizen pottery through his love for clay and ceramics, and a profound respect for the potters of the past. It underwent intense reduction firing in the kiln, resulting in a shimmering, silvery-white luster that resembles silver ore. Such a distinct clay character is rarely seen and is surely the result of his dedication to clay preparation. The large, bold form is truly magnificent and perfect for hearty drinking, though it would also be delightful to use as a tea cup. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 8.4cm x Diameter 7.7cm x Height 6.0cm Reiji Omori was born in Tobe, Iyo District, Ehime Prefecture in 1969. He completed his studies at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Vocational School in 1988 and became a disciple of Shun-tei Kato in 1989. After further training in Iga, Mie Prefecture, and Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, he became captivated by Bizen ware and moved to Bizen in 1999. In 2000, he built his studio and an anagama kiln in Osafune, Ushimado, and finally produced his first firing in 2004.
