Description

This ash-glazed sake cup is by Iwao Kaneshige, who has been steadily honing his craft in the same kiln used by generations of his prestigious family, including the great Toyo Kaneshige and Michiaki Kaneshige. The thin application of transparent glaze over the ash glaze serves as an accent, creating a unique texture reminiscent of a snowy landscape. The interior also features an elegant pattern created by the transparent glaze, which will surely shimmer beautifully when filled with sake. This piece perfectly matches the artist's meticulous craftsmanship with a gentle glaze. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 7.1cm x Diameter 6.7cm x Height 3.9cm Iwao Kaneshige is the eldest son of Michiaki Kaneshige. Born and raised in a family of Bizen ware artists, his natural love for pottery led him to pursue a career in the craft. After refining his techniques under the guidance of the Kaneshige family, he became independent in 1995 and held his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Okayama. He has also exhibited in the Kaneshige Family Exhibitions in 1999 and 2001.
