Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by Makoto Nakamura, a renowned master of sake ware and tableware, and the eldest son of the legendary Bizen potter Rokuro Nakamura. The distinct, rounded "nuke" (fire mark) resembles a sunrise, standing as a testament to the myriad transformations Bizen clay is capable of. Fired using a technique that allows the clay to slowly absorb smoke within the kiln, the piece features a smooth sangiri (ash-covered) effect that has transformed into a vermilion hue, as if blushing. The powerful, visible wheel marks on the interior and the slightly orange-toned clay body will surely serve as the perfect accompaniment to your drink. *Acquired from a collector who is a devoted fan of the Nakamura family. There are slight signs of use, and the surface feels somewhat smooth.* Original wooden box (Shiho-san)
Diameter 7.4cm × Diameter 7.3cm × Height 5.0cm Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Makoto Nakamura began learning the fundamentals and honing his skills under his father in 1971. To further master the firing techniques of Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he spent ten years assisting and receiving guidance from Michiaki Kaneshige during kiln firings. He became independent in 1975. He primarily creates tea ceremony ceramics and tableware, as well as flower vases, sake bottles, and sake cups. He holds frequent solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Okayama, Nagoya, and throughout Japan.
