Description
This Bizen *hidasuki* (fire-cord) teacup is by Tomio Ochi, an artist who works tirelessly at the kiln under the tutelage of Anjin Abe, pouring his unfulfilled artistic aspirations into his ceramics. This piece represents an Ochi *hidasuki* that aims beyond the limits of what is typically achievable with the technique. Fired at temperatures over 100 degrees higher than usual, the cup embodies lines that undulate like a dragon and a scarlet hue as vivid as flame. The work clearly demonstrates Ochi’s refusal to spare any time or effort, while the meticulousness of the overall form further elevates its quality.
Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
