Description
This is an Ibe sake cup by Tomio Ochi, who diligently worked at the kiln under the tutelage of Anjin Abe, pouring his lingering aspirations into his pottery. The piece is coated with iron-rich clay and fired at a higher temperature than usual, resulting in a rich, viscous black hue. Layers of dark brownish-black are complemented by well-melted yellow sesame glaze, creating a profound landscape. The potter's mark is left unpainted, revealing the base clay underneath; this is a characteristic Ochi touch that resembles the "tsuchimise" (exposed clay) technique found in glazed ceramics.
Original signed box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipment).

He built his own kiln in Ushimado in 1998, and has since been dedicated to Bizen ware, applying the experience he gained from his studies in sculpture and painting.
