Description
This is a Yamate-yaki deep tea bowl, a collaborative work between the master Bizen craftsman Kōsai Suzuki—beloved by all for his carefree smile and reliable skill—and Jū Moriwake, known as the restorer of Chugoku Bank. On this Yamate-yaki tea bowl, a specialty of Suzuki, who was well-versed in styles beyond Bizen, the highly cultured Moriwake has applied skillful brushwork. The modest painting of white plum blossoms on the milky-white base creates an incredibly delicate atmosphere. The interior of the bowl has kiln-transmuted into a subtle madder red, an exquisite hue that is evocative of spring.
With signature and box by Jū Moriwake (double-crossbar lid)
