Description

This is a painted Bizen-yaki sake cup with lion-head handles by Yasuhito Abe, an artist whose profound insight into antique pottery and refined aesthetic sense allow him to create one-of-a-kind works through his original research and firing techniques. The work is deeply impressive, featuring the striking image of a red Mt. Fuji positioned majestically on the front. Goma (ash glaze) and green pigments are arranged as if to depict the sky, while the clouds drifting over the mountain are expressed using gold and silver. A red sunset is incorporated into the interior, allowing the viewer to enjoy the scenery from every angle. Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (as it is currently in production, please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 9.4cm × Diameter 9.6cm × Height 5.0cm Yasuhito Abe was originally a Western-style painter. He began collecting pottery as a hobby, but finding contemporary Bizen ware unsatisfying, he started creating his own pottery in 1972 to produce pieces that met his own standards. He frequently crafts water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups, all formed on a wheel and finished with a spatula. He bases his ceramic art on Momoyama-period Bizen ware and is highly meticulous about his firing process. He also engages in diverse creative activities, presenting mixed-media works that combine various materials and techniques, such as ceramics, lacquer, oil painting, and bronze. He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and abroad, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
