Description

This Bizen sake cup is by the renowned artisan Makoto Nakamura, the eldest son of the legendary Bizen pottery master Rokuro Nakamura, and is highly acclaimed for his sake vessels and tableware. The piece features a stunning scarlet hue and a matte-textured "kase-goma" finish that is instantly recognizable as Nakamura-style Bizen. Its appearance resembles a piece of fruit with half the peel removed: one side is a vivid scarlet that remains etched in the mind, while the other exhibits a sophisticated, woody, matte-sesame ash glaze. By throwing the pottery slowly and rhythmically, the artist has created clear, pronounced wheel marks that make the cup easy to hold while adding an intriguing visual texture.
