Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by Shin Nakamura, a celebrated master of sake vessels and tableware and the eldest son of the late Rokuro Nakamura, a legendary Bizen ceramic artist. This piece features a vibrant scarlet hue across its entire surface, allowing one to fully savor the characteristic "sweet" earth quality unique to the Nakamura family. The light dusting of *goma* (ash glaze) creates subtle shadows on the work, further emphasizing the intensity of the scarlet color. The smooth texture of the soft clay invites you to use the cup frequently, as if polishing it with sake, as you cultivate its character over time. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 7.9cm × 7.7cm × Height 5.3cm Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Shin Nakamura began learning the fundamentals of pottery from his father in 1971. To master the firing techniques of the Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he also assisted and received guidance from Michiaki Kaneshige with his kiln firings for ten years. He established his own studio in 1975. He creates a wide range of works, primarily tea ceremony ceramics and tableware, as well as flower vases, sake bottles, and sake cups. He holds active solo exhibitions across Japan, including in Tokyo, Okayama, and Nagoya.
