Description

This is a Bizen tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. The piece was fired in a position that allowed for optimal airflow, resulting in a striking and bold scarlet hue that immediately catches the eye. The sophisticated contrast of "goma" (ash glaze) and "sangiri" (color variations from kiln atmosphere) creates a perfect harmony between refined subtlety and vivid intensity. With the clean, elegant form characteristic of Koriki's work, it is easy to use and will be a pleasure to spend time with as you watch the scarlet colors evolve over the years. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 8.5cm x Diameter 8.6cm x Height 9.4cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, a pottery enthusiast, he decided to pursue a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school, he began his apprenticeship in 1989 under the masters Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige, from whom he learned his craft. After seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and successfully produced his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual exhibitions since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Sweets Containers You Want to Use" exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu Aesthetics" exhibition for the first time.
