Description

This is a Bizen sake flask by Shin Nakamura, a celebrated creator of sake vessels and tableware, and the eldest son of the late master Rokuro Nakamura, a pride of Bizen ware. The piece was thrown into a cylindrical shape and then gently hand-molded to create its form. While this alone might result in a soft impression, the sharp, clean cut at the base brings the entire piece together beautifully. The "hidasuki" (fire-cord) patterns typical of the Nakamura family appear from the shoulder down to the body, creating a finish that is remarkably well-suited for a sake flask. (*Please note that the box shows significant signs of sun damage. Additionally, as this is a pre-owned item, there are slight traces of use.) Signed wooden box (double-crosspiece)
Rim 3.4cm × Body diameter 9.1cm × Body diameter 9.0cm × Height 13.7cm Capacity approx. 440ml Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Shin Nakamura began learning the foundations of pottery under his father in 1971, where he honed his skills. To further study the firing techniques of Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he spent ten years assisting and receiving guidance from Michiaki Kaneshige at his kiln. He became independent in 1975. He primarily focuses on tea ceremony wares and tableware, while also creating flower vases, sake flasks, and sake cups. He actively holds solo exhibitions across Japan, including in Tokyo, Okayama, and Nagoya.
