Description
This is a series of small plates by Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with unique originality within a fresh aesthetic. These delightful pieces are approximately 15 cm in size—easy to handle, convenient for daily use, and simple to store due to their modest width and height. One of their charms is the variety of firing techniques used, including kiln changes characteristic of wood-fired (ana-gama) kilns, and a striking black glaze that reflects the artist’s meticulous attention to detail. When in use, they serve as the perfect supporting role, characteristic of Bizen ware, by enhancing the main attraction—whether it be a meal, sweets, or fruit.
