Description

This Bizen sake flask is the work of Reiji Omori, an artist who approaches Bizen pottery with a love for the earth, a passion for ceramics, and profound respect for the potters of the past. Created using a combination of hand-coiling and the potter’s wheel, the form features a pleasant, gentle distortion. The texture of the clay is moist and refined, resulting in a robust, rustic piece that evokes the austere beauty of ancient Bizen ware. The subtle yellow sesame glaze (ki-goma) layered with fine thread-like markings (ito-goma) quietly and gracefully conveys the multifaceted charm of Bizen pottery without fanfare. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Mouth 3.7cm x Body diameter 8.2cm x Body diameter 8.0cm x Height 12.3cm; Capacity approx. 270cc Reiji Omori was born in Tobe, Iyo District, Ehime Prefecture, in 1969. After completing his studies at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramics Vocational School in 1988, he apprenticed under Shun-tei Kato in 1989. He later studied in Iga, Mie Prefecture, and Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, before becoming captivated by Bizen ware and relocating to Bizen in 1999. In 2000, he built his studio and an anagama kiln in Osafune, Ushimado-cho, and successfully fired his first kiln in 2004.
