Description

This is a Bizen tea cup by the highly anticipated and popular artist Koichiro Isezaki, the eldest son of Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki. The classic form of the tea cup that Koichiro-sensei previously created has been updated, resulting in a larger and even more charming shape. The clay surface, fired in an anagama kiln, is colored in a fresh, vibrant scarlet and, along with the dynamic sesame glaze (goma), presents a truly brilliant landscape. With a generous capacity of approximately 400ml, this piece is versatile enough to be used for tea, shochu, or beer. Signed wooden box (Shiho-san)
Diameter 9.1cm x 8.8cm x Height 10.4cm

He aspired to become a ceramic artist from an early age. After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Zokei University in 1994, he studied abroad in the United States. He studied ceramics for about two years under Jeff Shapiro, a ceramic artist based in New York City, which greatly broadened his perspective on art and pottery. After returning to Japan in 2000, he trained under his father alongside his father's apprentices. In 2002, he submitted work to the Tanabe Museum of Art Tea Ceremony Exhibition for the first time, where it was selected.
