Description
This is an Ibe teacup by Tomio Ochi, who diligently fired kilns under the guidance of Yasuhito Abe and pours his still-unfulfilled aspirations into his ceramics. The vessel is coated with iron-rich clay and fired at a higher temperature than usual, resulting in a rich, viscous black hue. It was slowly crafted by hand, and a touch or a glance reveals the extremely high density of the clay particles. On this profound texture, light "sesame" ash glazes dance like fine powder snow, a testament to the fineness of the grains.
