Description

This is an Ibe sake cup by Tomio Ochi, who worked diligently firing the kiln under the tutelage of Anjin Abe, pouring his lingering aspirations into his pottery. The piece is crafted by coating the vessel in iron-rich clay and firing it repeatedly at higher temperatures than usual, aiming for a depth of black reminiscent of lacquerware. It features the dynamic movement characteristic of Ochi, who strives to construct a single world containing various movements, much like a sculpture. It is like a sculpture made of clay using bare hands, and one can feel the artist's definite ideals within its flowing motion. Signed box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping)
Diameter 19.5cm x Diameter 19.3cm x Height 8.4cm Tomio Ochi graduated from Niihama Technical High School in Ehime Prefecture in 1949. He moved to Tokyo in 1952 to study oil painting and sculpture. Since then, he has dedicated himself to painting and sculpture while working at a company. In 1997, he visited Anjin Abe in Ushimado, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture, to receive his guidance. He built his own kiln in Ushimado in 1998, and has since been working on Bizen ware, applying the experience he gained from studying sculpture and painting.
