Description

This Bizen tea cup is by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his craft on the rigorous path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. The work is crafted from the same coarse Bizen clay as his father’s, featuring a rugged surface that one might momentarily mistake for Shigaraki ware. However, upon holding it, one finds the texture to be surprisingly smooth and gentle, a stark contrast to its appearance—a finish that reflects the meticulous care characteristic of the Kaneshige family. The contrast between the sharp, incised base and the taut, well-defined foot, and the soft, undulating rim reminiscent of gentle ripples, demonstrates a masterful balance between strength and softness.
