Description
This is the latest Ibe sake cup by Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating works that are always straightforward and possess great backbone. The foot, where the slip has been intentionally kept away, reveals exquisite "crêpe" wrinkles that are full of character. While showcasing masterful craftsmanship in key areas such as the foot and the rim, the work retains a sense of vigor, free from the excessive handling that often comes from over-working a piece. The firing is magnificent, with grains of black, yellow, and scorched sesame-like ash layered over one another, resulting in a somber, refined presence with a sophisticated, weathered charm.
