Description

This is a Bizen tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. The piece was fired in a position that allowed for optimal airflow, resulting in a striking and bold scarlet hue. Created using a blend of rice-paddy clay and mountain clay refined through years of research, it possesses a beautiful texture that is also very pleasant to the touch. The high base, featuring the artist's trademark "one-and-a-half-turn" trimming, is truly impressive and gives this tea cup a profound artistic presence. Its bold, larger-than-palm size makes it versatile enough for use with tea, shochu, beer, or any number of creative applications. Paper box
Diameter 8.9cm x 8.7cm x Height 10.7cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, a lover of ceramics, he aspired to pursue the path of pottery. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied the craft under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho. Following seven years of training, he built a climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to strike out on his own in 1996, and successfully produced his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Exhibition of Northern Confectionery Vessels I'd Like to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Ceramic Arts Exhibition" for the first time.
