Description

This rice bowl features a delightful, rustic texture characteristic of earthenware, crafted using mountain clay by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young ceramic artist and former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. Its charm lies in its coarse, pebbled texture and elegant, subdued firing. As you use it daily, the earthen quality will deepen, and its texture will gradually become smoother. Its generous size makes it suitable for preparing and enjoying matcha as well. Bizen rice bowls are highly regarded for being easy to use as rice grains are less likely to stick to them, making this an excellent gift. Paper box

About gift wrapping Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, a pottery enthusiast, he decided to pursue a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school, he apprenticed under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho in 1989 to learn the techniques of the craft. Following seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to strike out on his own, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Bowls from the North I'd Like to Use," and in 2002, he was first selected for the "Chanoyu Modeling Exhibition."
