Description

This is a Hidasuki (fire-cord) teacup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist and apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. The clay, which possesses the mugwort-colored earthiness and fine iron content inherited from Master Sozan, is beautifully accented by the elegant Hidasuki markings. The plump, charming form provides a gentle and warm feel in the hand, making this a truly soothing piece. The way Master Koriki applies the Hidasuki is exquisite; the variations—ranging from thick, powerful lines to delicate, ephemeral strokes and soft, sweeping patterns across the vessel—are incredibly expressive and fascinating. It matches well with tea saucers, making it a useful piece for when you have guests. Paper box

About Gift Wrapping Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to pursue the path of ceramics. After graduating from high school, he began his apprenticeship in 1989 under the father-and-son team of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige to master the craft. After seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996, and successfully held his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold them annually ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Exhibition of North Country Confectionery Vessels I'd Like to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the first time for the "Chanoyu Modeling Exhibition."
