Description

This is a Hidasuki yunomi (tea cup) by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, who was an inner disciple of the master Sozan Kaneshige. The clay, a mugusa (mugwort) color containing the fine iron particles inherited from Sozan, is beautifully complemented by the elegant Hidasuki flame markings. The plump, adorable form gives it a gentle and warm feel in the hand, making it a truly soothing piece. The way Mr. Koriki applies the Hidasuki is exquisite; the markings are incredibly expressive and intriguing, ranging from thick, powerful lines to thin, ephemeral ones, and areas where they softly spread across the surface of the vessel. It matches well with tea saucers, making it a useful piece for when you have guests. Paper box

About gift wrapping Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved ceramics, he aspired to pursue the path of pottery. After graduating from high school, he studied under the father-son team of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989 to master his craft. After seven years of training, he built an anagama kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and became independent in 1996, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Northern Confectionery Vessels I'd Like to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
