Description

This Bizen sake cup is the work of Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe, has loved Bizen ware since childhood, and finds his life's joy in creating pieces and firing kilns. The piece is striking for its unique design, part of his "Ryumon" (flowing pattern) series, created with a rare and exceptional sense of style. The unique patterns, which resemble both rippling sand and ancient ritual vessels, originate from the base and surge across the entire body like waves. The dull-colored kiln transformation (yohen) across the surface, which highlights the high design quality, is also magnificent. Despite its sophisticated design, a key point is that it is also lightweight and easy to use. Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Approx. diameter 7.1cm × 7.0cm × height 5.2cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Thinking from a young age that he would become a ceramic artist, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his scope. After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture in 2006, he entered the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture to hone his skills. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. He is currently active mainly through solo exhibitions at department stores.
