Description

This Bizen teapot is the work of Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe and has loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. It is an "avant-garde teapot" in a completely new style, in which the artist's imagination, technique, and innate sense are fully demonstrated, based on a spherical form. Although the "teapot" is a motif that countless potters must have worked on before, Baba's sense makes it feel like something entirely new. Its cute, perfectly round design has the presence of an objet d'art, yet it firmly retains its function as a vessel. It is a piece whose pleasant sense of incongruity, brought about by Baba's sensibilities, stimulates the viewer's aesthetic sense. Paper box

Thinking from a young age that he would become a potter in the future, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his ceramics. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture in 2006, and went on to hone his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. He is currently active mainly through solo exhibitions at department stores.
