Description
This Bizen sake cup is by Kosei Kibata, who made his long-awaited debut after nine years of training as a disciple of Jun Isezaki. The piece challenges the concept of primitive firing, resulting in a mysterious appearance reminiscent of ash-glazed pottery. A wide variety of colors, including black, silver, and moss green, intermingle within the bold form to create a unique landscape. There is a small indentation, which resulted from additional natural glaze settling into a spot where the original natural glaze had popped.
Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 8.1cm × 7.7cm × Height 7.6cm Kosei Kibata was born in Imbe, Bizen City in 1974. He began his apprenticeship under Bizen potter Jun Isezaki in 2002. In 2012, he built his own kiln and became independent in Shimizu, Wake Town. That same year, he received the Tanabe Museum of Art Grand Prize and the Encouragement Award at the Exhibition of Tea Ceremony Ceramics.
