Description

This yakishime sake cup is a latest release from the kiln of Masao Akiya, a potter who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality within a fresh spirit. By using Shigaraki clay, the piece successfully blends Bizen and Shigaraki styles, featuring a beautiful scarlet clay texture and a strong, white-toned sesame glaze (goma). The generous application of yellow sesame glaze changes color depending on the area and placement, ensuring the viewer never tires of it. Using a technique where line patterns are carved into the clay while it is still a lump and then expanded outward, the lines spread with beautiful wrinkles, effectively expressing the clay's powerful character and vitality. (*Please note in advance that the piece may be slightly unsteady.)
