Description

This black bowl is a brand-new piece fresh from the kiln by Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates original works imbued with a fresh spirit. Named simply "Wan" (bowl) to signify its true versatility, this piece features a rounded, charming design—a first-time experiment for Mr. Akitani. While the artist himself uses it as a café au lait bowl at home, it would also be perfect for soup, side dishes, or as a dessert cup. The Bizen-style version features beautiful interior scenery, making it ideal for table decorations as well, such as filled with water and floating flower petals. On a morning coffee break, cupping it in both hands provides a comforting, soothing moment of warmth. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 11.2cm × Diameter 11.0cm × Height 7.1cm Masao Akitani was born in Saitama in 1968. In 1998, he began an apprenticeship under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki. After ten years of training, he built his own kiln in Bizen and became an independent artist in 2008, holding his first kiln opening in 2009. He has been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art "The Modeling of Tea Ceremony" exhibition and the Japan Kōgei Association Chugoku Branch exhibition, and has received awards including the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Award and the Encouragement Award.
