Description

This is a new black bowl fresh from the kiln by Masao Akiya, a potter who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with a unique originality rooted in a fresh sensibility. This is a piece that Mr. Akiya attempted for the first time; with a cute, rounded design, he named it a "wan" (bowl) to signify that it can truly be used for anything. The artist himself uses it as a café au lait bowl at home, but it would also be perfect for serving soup, side dishes, or even as a dessert cup. With the Bizen style, the interior scenery is also beautiful, so it can be enjoyed as a table decoration by filling it with water and floating flower petals. During your morning coffee time, cupping it in both hands to warm yourself will surely provide a soothing and relaxing moment. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please note that it will take some time before shipping) Diameter 11.2cm × Diameter 11.2cm × Height 7.8cm Masao Akiya was born in Saitama in 1968. He studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki from 1998, and after ten years of training, he built his own kiln in Bizen and became independent in 2008. He held his first kiln opening in 2009. His work has been selected for exhibitions such as the Tanabe Art Museum’s "The Art of Tea Ceremony" exhibition and the Japan Kōgei Association Chugoku Branch Exhibition, and he has received awards including the Prefectural Exhibition Prize and the Encouragement Prize at the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition.
