Description

This Bizen coffee set is the latest kiln-opening release by Masao Akiya, a ceramicist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works full of unique originality rooted in a fresh sensibility. This highly stylish coffee set blends sophisticated design with the refined firing techniques of an anagama wood-fired kiln. By using a spatula to shave the piece while the clay is still leather-hard after throwing, the grit within the clay is shifted, creating a rustic, wild expression within a simple form. The flat saucer features a circular depression carved into the center, achieving a balance of design and functionality. Paper box
