Description

This is the latest sake cup fresh from the kiln by Masao Akiya, a potter who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality within a fresh spirit. As Akiya himself declared it a great success, this is a magnificent piece featuring a rich coating of natural glaze and a glossy, deep black finish. The spherical, tea-bowl-like form is accentuated by a dynamic, flowing sesame glaze that looks as if it were poured over the surface. The contrast between the golden sesame and the beautiful black is superb, and it is a delight just to hold it in the palm of your hand and admire it.
