Description

This is the latest black cup from the kiln of Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with unique originality within a new spirit. This piece is a resized version of the various sake cup designs developed by Akitani-sensei, adapted to serve as a beer or shochu cup. Its avant-garde design suits the larger form exceptionally well, pairing perfectly with the chic, deep, and lustrous black firing. The design, color, and firing are brilliantly unified under a single theme, resulting in a piece typical of the Isezaki school that would even suit contemporary architecture.
