Description

This is a new colored Bizen sake cup by Yasuhito Abe, an artist who creates one-of-a-kind works through unique research and firing techniques, driven by a deep discernment and aesthetic sense for antique ceramics. This new coloring features intricately carved, surging waves. The composition is strikingly beautiful, with the turquoise blue of the waves contrasting against the red of Mt. Fuji. The heavily fired, substantial texture of the surface is also magnificent, maintaining a high quality as art while constantly evolving. Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for delivery)
Diameter 6.6cm × 6.3cm × Height 6.5cm Yasuhito Abe was originally a Western-style painter. He began collecting ceramics as a hobby, but finding contemporary Bizen ware unsatisfying, he started pottery in 1972 to create pieces that met his own standards. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups, all of which are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. He bases his pottery on the antique Bizen ware of the Momoyama period and is highly particular about his firing techniques. Furthermore, he is engaged in diverse expressive activities, presenting works that combine various materials and techniques, such as ceramics, lacquer, oil painting, and bronze (mixed media). He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and abroad, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
