Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by Rokuro Nakamura, a master craftsman of whom Bizen is proud, and who was renowned as a god of sake ware production. The bright brown clay body, achieved through the solid firing of high-quality clay, possesses a rich hue that seems to emanate the very essence of Bizen. The dignified rise of the body, from a period slightly before his final years, is also magnificent. This simple yet profound style, which captivates everyone, is something you can cherish for a lifetime. (*Please note in advance that there is a small "kuttsuki" (kiln adhesion) on the waist.) Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 7.1cm × Diameter 7.0cm × Height 5.8cm Rokuro Nakamura worked as a company employee until the end of the war, but in 1945 he began studying under the Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige to hone his skills, eventually establishing his own Rokuro Kiln in 1961. He preferred to create sake vessels such as tokkuri (sake bottles) on the potter's wheel. Using the tatara technique, he also produced hobin (teapots), kyusu, and tea bowls. With a simple and rustic style, and because he worked with unglazed stoneware, he valued the firing process and put great effort into the kiln-loading process, which determines the quality of the works. He became a certified traditional craftsman in 1986, the same year he received the Okayama Nichinichi Shimbun Award, and in 1989 he was awarded the Order of the Blue Paulownia Leaves in the spring decorations. He passed away in April 2004.
