Description

This Bizen tea cup is by Yukio Tomori, who began his pottery journey in Okinawa and later apprenticed under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. Reflecting Mr. Tomori’s philosophy of not setting fixed shapes or constraints, but rather letting the clay flow and capturing what he feels is the best moment—much like a photograph—this piece possesses a distinct sense of movement. Although it is a rectangular plate created with the "tataki" (beating) technique, both ends are sharply curved upward, successfully combining a sleek aesthetic with a practical design that prevents food from spilling. Additionally, it features a rare applied foot (tsuke-kodai), showcasing Mr. Tomori's meticulous attention to design detail.
