Description

This Bizen-yaki yunomi (tea cup) is by Yukio Tomori, who began his path in ceramics in Okinawa and studied under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. His work captures the clay in motion, as if fired at the very moment he found the "most beautiful instant" while constantly altering its shape on the potter's wheel. The dynamic form creates a powerful flow of clay, giving the mysterious impression of being drawn into a whirlpool of earth. When filled with sake, it looks as if the liquid is being held in a jar, and by gently rotating the cup to follow the flow of the clay, one can truly enjoy the time spent drinking.
