Description

This Bizen yunomi (teacup) was created by Yukio Tomori, who began his pottery career in Okinawa before studying under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. Reflecting his desire to capture the "most beautiful moment" of the clay as it constantly shifts on the potter's wheel, the work has a style that looks as if the dynamic clay were fired just as it was. The vibrant shape creates a powerful flow of earth, leaving a mysterious impression as if one were being drawn into a whirlpool of clay. When filled with sake, it looks as if the liquid is being stored in a jar, and if you gently rotate the cup following the flow of the earth, you can enjoy the very act of drinking.
