Description
This Bizen mug was created by Yukio Tomori, who began his path in pottery in Okinawa and studied under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. Wishing for others to see the "most beautiful moment" in the ever-changing form of the clay while on the potter's wheel, his style captures the clay as if it were fired while still in dynamic motion. The work has a playful, dancing quality that makes you feel as though it might still be expanding to the touch, and it is a delight just to look at. Drinking your morning coffee from this mug feels as if it is cheering you on, saying, "Go get 'em today."
"Yukio Tomori Special Feature" No box included
Diameter 13.7cm x Diameter 9.6cm x Height 11.0cm Yukio Tomori was born on Miyako Island in Okinawa Prefecture. During high school, he encountered wood-fired yakishime pottery in Okinawa, which inspired him to pursue a career in ceramics. He trained at the Tsubayama Pottery Studio in Okinawa starting in 1984. Later, while traveling to various pottery regions, he discovered Bizen ware and was deeply moved; he subsequently studied under Taisetsu Sueishi for four years starting in 1987. He built his own anagama kiln in 1999 and became independent after his first firing. Since holding his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2001, he has held exhibitions in various locations, including Fukushima, Chiba, Osaka, Ehime, and Miyako Island.
