Description

This is a Bizen tea cup by Yukio Tomori, who began his path in ceramics in Okinawa before studying under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. Reflecting his philosophy of not setting fixed forms or constraints, and instead capturing the best moment by letting the clay follow its own flow, this piece features a dynamic shape. The shimmering scorched sesame-seed glaze speaks to the intensity of the kiln firing, creating a striking appearance that perfectly complements the fluid design. True to his motto of "free-spirited pottery making," the design is versatile enough to be used as a flower vase in addition to its use as a sake vessel.

Later, moved by his encounter with Bizen ware while traveling through various pottery regions, he studied under Taisetsu Sueishi for four years beginning in 1987.
