Description

This Bizen yunomi (teacup) is by Yukio Tomori, who began his path in ceramics in Okinawa and studied under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. Reflecting Tomori’s philosophy of not imposing fixed forms or constraints, but rather letting the clay flow and capturing the moment he feels is best—as one might with a photograph—this piece possesses a dynamic quality unique to his work. Although it is a slab-built rectangular dish, both ends are sharply curved upward, masterfully achieving a balance between a sharp aesthetic and the practicality of preventing food from spilling. Furthermore, it features a rare applied foot (tsuke-kodai), showcasing Tomori’s meticulous attention to design.
