Description

This Bizen rice bowl is the work of Yukio Tomori, who began his journey in ceramics in Okinawa before studying under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. It is characterized by the rich, evocative appearance achieved through stacking in the kiln, and the particularly beautiful *hi-dasuki* (fire-cord) markings are truly captivating. The vivid red of the *hi-dasuki* stands out beautifully against the clean, white clay body, with such brilliant colors—typical of high-temperature oxidation firing—that you may find yourself admiring the bowl even after finishing your meal. While the piece is lightly and thinly crafted, its powerful form makes it both easy to use and imbued with a rustic, wabi-sabi aesthetic.

Diameter: 13.0cm x 12.6cm, Height: 6.7cm Yukio Tomori was born on Miyakojima, Okinawa. Inspired by the wood-fired *yakishime* pottery he encountered during his high school years, he resolved to pursue a career in ceramics. He began his training at Tsunami-yama Pottery in Okinawa in 1984. Later, while traveling to various pottery centers, he encountered Bizen ware and was deeply moved, leading him to study under Taisetsu Sueishi for four years starting in 1987. In 1999, he built his own *anagama* kiln and became independent after his first firing. Following his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2001, he has held solo exhibitions in various locations, including Fukushima, Chiba, Osaka, Ehime, and Miyakojima.
