Description

This beer cup is the work of Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates pieces brimming with a unique originality amidst a new spirit. It is characterized by the intense *goma* (ash glaze) unique to wood-fired *anagama* kilns and a distinctly contrasting clay texture. The thin construction makes it easy to use, while maintaining the strong design sensibility typical of Akitani, resulting in a piece that is both practical and visually striking. Since Bizen ware stays cool, chilling the cup for about 10 minutes before use will provide a delightful experience in the hot season, perfectly complementing the fine texture of the beer foam. Signed wooden box (double-braced)
Diameter 8.5cm x Diameter 8.4cm x Height 12.3cm Masao Akitani was born in Saitama in 1968. After studying under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki starting in 1998, he completed a 10-year apprenticeship, built his own kiln in Bizen, and established his independence in 2008. He held his first kiln firing in 2009. His works have been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art’s "Tea Ceremony Forms" exhibition and the Japan Kōgei Association Chugoku Branch exhibition, and he has received awards including the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Prize and the Encouragement Award.
