Description

This beer glass is the work of Masao Akitani, who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality infused with a fresh spirit. It features the intense *goma* (ash glaze) characteristic of an *anagama* kiln, contrasted with a distinct earthy texture. While its thin-walled construction makes it easy to handle, it also bears the signature aesthetic of Mr. Akitani, resulting in a piece that is both practical and visually striking. Since Bizen ware stays cool, chilling the glass for about 10 minutes before use will provide a delightful experience in the hot season, enhancing the fine texture of the beer foam. Signed wooden box (lid with two-way bracing)
Diameter 8.2cm × Diameter 8.0cm × Height 12.6cm Masao Akitani was born in Saitama in 1968. He began his apprenticeship under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki in 1998, and after ten years of training, he built his own kiln in Bizen and became independent in 2008. He held his first kiln firing in 2009. His work has been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art’s "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" and the Japan Kōgei Association Chugoku Branch Exhibition, and he has received awards including the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Prize and the Encouragement Prize.
