Description

This is an Ibe sake flask by Tomio Ochi, an artist who works quietly at his kiln under the tutelage of Yasuhito Abe, pouring his unfulfilled aspirations into his ceramics. The slightly tilted neck gives this piece a charmingly whimsical character. Despite being hand-molded, it is crafted with such meticulous detail that one might mistake it for a wheel-thrown or mold-made piece—a truly masterful creation. It is a work befitting Ochi-sensei, who makes absolutely no compromises in his pottery. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping)
Rim 3.7cm × Body diameter 8.1cm × Body diameter 8.0cm × Height 14.1cm Capacity approx. 250cc Tomio Ochi graduated from Niihama Technical High School in Ehime Prefecture in 1949. In 1952, he moved to Tokyo to study oil painting and sculpture. Thereafter, he pursued painting and sculpture while working a corporate job. In 1997, he visited Yasuhito Abe in Ushimado, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture, to receive his guidance. He established his own kiln in Ushimado in 1998, and continues to create Bizen ware while drawing upon his background in sculpture and painting.
