Description

This is a Bizen hidasuki (fire-cord) *taikai* tea caddy by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superior aesthetic sense who is in a constant state of evolution in his approach to clay, firing, and form. By eliminating all ornamentation from *goma* (ash glaze) or clay texture, this work captivates the viewer solely through the red fire-cord patterns on the surface of the clay. True to the research-oriented nature of Mr. Morimoto, he utilizes a firing method that makes the most of the clay, creating a magnificent character that rivals that of ancient Bizen ware. The slightly coarse, rather than smooth, texture further enhances the brilliant beauty of the *hidasuki*. This tea caddy perfectly embodies the remarkably difficult and elusive theme of a "withered aesthetic." Original signed wooden box (shiho-zan style)
Diameter 8.2cm × 8.2cm × Height 6.0cm (including ivory lid) Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976. He completed the Bizen Ceramics Center program in 1996. After working independently, he held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2004. Since then, he has held solo exhibitions every year, primarily in Tokyo and throughout the country. He was selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art’s "Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition" in 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2008, he exhibited at the "Contemporary Artists’ Sake Vessel Exhibition" at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi, Tokyo. In 2009, he exhibited at the "Contemporary Artists’ Tea Bowl Exhibition" at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi, Tokyo. In 2010, he held a solo exhibition titled "Yoshinobu Morimoto Special Exhibition" at Tenmaya, Okayama, among many other exhibitions held throughout the country.
