Description

This is a Bizen black sake cup by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, an artist who continues to lead the Bizen ware world with an inexhaustible creative spirit. Combining geometric stamped patterns with a split-glazed black finish, this piece embodies the innovative style for which Isezaki is known as a pioneer in the field. The areas where the black glaze meets the Bizen clay are smooth and display impeccable coloration, while the sections heavily coated in "sesame" glaze evoke the shimmering appearance of heat haze along the rim. Original wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipment)
Diameter 7.0cm × Diameter 6.3cm × Height 7.3cm Jun Isezaki was born the second son of Yozan Isezaki, a master of ceramic ornamentation, and studied pottery from childhood. He entered the path of professional ceramics after graduating from the Okayama University Special Art Course in 1959. His body of work is vast, ranging from traditional vases, plates, and tea ware to ceramic wall reliefs and sculptures. He places great importance on both the forming and firing processes, utilizing the characteristics of his materials and various kilns (anagama, climbing kilns, and electric kilns) to create pieces filled with a modern sensibility. He is also a leading figure in relief art, having presented numerous works. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966 and served as a special lecturer in fine arts at Okayama University for nine years starting in 1978. In 1998, he and his brother Mitsuru were both designated as Holders of Okayama Prefectural Important Intangible Cultural Property, and in the same year, he became the secretary general of the Chugoku branch of the Japan Kōgei Association. In July 2004, he was designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) by the Japanese government. Selected awards: Kaneshige Toyo Award, Okayama Prefecture Cultural Encouragement Award, Sanyo Shimbun Award, Excellence Award at the Chanoyu Modeling Exhibition, and many others / Prefectural Exhibition Juror
