Description
This is a new kiln-altered (yohen) sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Inbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. Using clay with high fire resistance, he has created a piece that controls the highly unpredictable "ash-covered" (haikaburi) kiln-alteration effect. Created with the intention of achieving an overall ash-covered finish, it features a dull, shimmering violet ash glaze that could be described as "silver-purple." To the touch, it possesses a ruggedness akin to ore, and because of its simple form, it looks as if it were carved from a piece of cooled, scattered volcanic rock.

Diameter 7.4cm × 7.3cm × Height 5.5cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006 with a degree in sculpture and went on to refine his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
