Description

This new kiln-transformed sake cup is by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds joy in creating works and firing kilns. Reflecting Mr. Baba’s deep reverence for Bizen ware, this piece is defined not only by its unique form but also by a meticulous attention to the expression of the clay's natural texture. The thin, smooth silhouette is complemented by a vivid red kiln-transformation; beyond the texture of the clay, it seems to almost plead with the viewer to appreciate the durability and beautiful color development of Bizen clay. The foot, carved like a sculpture, is finished with a stone-like texture, making it a joy to use and nurture as the clay develops a deeper, richer hue over time.
