Description

This is a new Hidasuki sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds joy in life through creating works and firing kilns. While Master Baba is known for his uniquely beautiful forms, this piece expresses a "static" form where the firing itself takes center stage, rather than a dynamic one. The rising curve of the body and the foot, which is only slightly carved after being cut, contain a quiet yet profound sculptural beauty. To allow the firing to stand out—fitting for a static form—it was fired with a strong reduction while avoiding sesame glaze, resulting in a stunningly beautiful Hidasuki with golden accents on an azuki-bean colored surface.
